Earthjustice - Mission

Earthjustice is a non-profit, public interest law firm dedicated to protecting the magnificent places, natural resources, wildlife, to defend the right of all people to a healthy environment.

Earthjustice works through the courts on behalf of citizen groups, scientists, etc., to ensure government agencies and private interests follow the law.

On Capitol Hill, Washington, D.C. Earthjustice lawyers work to protect and strenghten federal government laws, preserve special places, like Arctic tundra and wildlife in Alaska.  Earthjustice's lawyers handle hundreds of cases every year, with federal and state environmental lawsuits argued and appealed, at the Court of Appeals, 9th Circuit, San Francisco.

Starting in 1969, a deluge of new environmental statues was passed and signed into law.  By 1973, Congress had created the following environmental laws:

National Environmental Policy Act - 1970
Clean Water Act - 1972
Clear Air Act - 1970
Endangered Species Act (ESA) - 1971
National Forest Management Act - 1976
