Author Profile - Edward Humes received the Pulitzer Prize for his journalism, and is a writer for Los Angeles magazine.  He lives in California.  He defines eco barons as visionaries who "are using their wealth, energy, celebrity and knowledge of the law and science to persuade, and sometimes force, the United States and the world to take a new direction."

Summary:

Earth's resources will be used up by the global population of 7 billion people causing global warming consequences:

polar ice caps melting
coastal regions flooding
droughts and extreme storms
fuel and food supplies will shrink

Trillium Co. - a Washington state logging company bought 625,000 acres of forest in Tierra del Fuego, at the southern tip of South America, to cut down all the trees.

Fiordos Blancos Salmon Co. - Patagonia, Chile, South America.  One of the most environmentally destructive forms of aquacultture, packing thousands of salmon in crowded pens in the ocean, doused with antibiotics that contaminate all sea life,the ocean floor becomes coated with uneaten fish meal and fecal waste.  This is where Wal-Mart, the billion dollar industry, gets its cheap salmon.  It is a $1.5 billion business in Chile.
